Differentiation and morphogenesis represent two different terms that address the development of biological organisms. Differentiation refers to how cells become specialized, whereas morphogenesis refers to the development of the forms of living organisms. Growth, differentiation and morphogenesis are the processes by which a single cell, the fertilised ovum, develops into a large complex multicellular organism, with co-ordinated organ systems containing a variety of cell types, each with individual specialised functions.
